Welcome Back to School

Dear Parents,
I'm sure most of you are up to date on what goes on in 3rd grade! We have started our year off with a great start. The kids are such a delight and so much to get to know. I would like to ask if you could buy your son or daughter a package of Multiplication Flash cards. Study them at home between a parent and the student. We have been reviewing the 0's through 2's. As most of you know we are going on a Field Trip to Heritage Days on Friday, September 24th (probably in the afternoon) and to Academy of Children's Theatre production of Cinderella on Thursday, September 30th at 9:15am (we will leave the school at 8:45am). I am now collecting, or the office is collecting, $5.00 per student and driver/attendee for the production of Cinderella. If you haven't already sent your $5.00 check, please do so, as I have to send one check for the total amount. Also, I will be phoning in our September Scholastic Book Orders this Friday, September 16th. If you haven't done so, please send your child's order/check or money order to Scholastic, by Friday, September 16th. And, as always I will notify you on my site or via email/snail mail as to any other updates, field trip info., classroom activities as we move along this precious year. Thank you. Happy Fall! Love, Miss Gray

Our Talentpalooza is this Saturday and Sunday at Barnes and Noble. 3rd grade, Mrs. Frederick's art class and various students throughout the school will be displaying their fine art, sculptures and paintings! We will be having the major window display and various displays set up throughout the store. It will be a pleasure and a proud moment to display the kid's work; they are so talented, especially my 3rd graders. Come down to the store during regular hours and have a proud moment as well, and don't forget to buy a book (teacher wish list displayed) and a drink of something special! Please mention our school when you check out with purchases!

I HOPE ALL OF YOU PARENTS AND CHILDREN OF CALVARY CHRISTIAN 3RD GRADE ARE GEARING UP FOR THE UPCOMING SCIENCE FAIR! YESTERDAY, WE INVITED 4TH GRADERS TO THE CREHST MUSEUM VISIT TO OUR SCHOOL. THEY PROVIDED AN INFORMATIONAL POWER POINT DEMONSTRATION OF WEATHER PATTERNS. WE ALSO PARTICIPATED IN WEATHER EXPERIMENTS, SIMILAR TO THE ONES PERFORMED IN CLASS LAST WEEK. WE MADE CLOUDS, HIGH AND LOW PRESSURE. THE VISIT WAS INVALUABLE JUST AS ANY "HANDS-ON" EXPERIMENTS IN CLASS AS THIS WILL MOTIVATE AND NOT DISCOURAGE YOUNG MINDS IN THE FIELD OF SCIENCE.
UPCOMING INFORMATION: ON EARTH DAY, APRIL 22ND, WE WILL NEED DRIVERS AND DRIVE TO MCNARY WILDLIFE REFUGE IN BURBANK, WASHINGTON. THERE 3RD THROUGH 5TH GRADE WILL PARTICIPATE IN LEARNING STATIONS REVOLVING AROUND THE SHRUB STEP HABITAT, BIRDS, FOWL, AND MANY OTHER LIVING THINGS. THIS WILL BE A 9AM TO 2PM DAY. SO, PLAN TO BRING A SACK LUNCH. THIS YEAR IT WILL BE EXCITING BECAUSE THEY HAVE FINISHED BUILDING THEIR NEW EDUCATION BUILDING AND VISITOR CENTER.
WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE KIDS TO FORT WALLA WALLA SOMETIME IN THE SPRING. PLANS ARE JUST NOW STARTING TO BE DISCUSSED. WE WILL ADVISE YOU LATER ON DOWN THE ROAD.
IOWA TESTING WILL CONVENE AFTER SPRING BREAK ON APRIL 12TH -16TH. I ADVISE PLENTY OF SLEEP, MORE IF ANY, AND PLENTY OF LIQUIDS, GOOD BALANCED DIET.

Welcome to Miss Gray's Days!

Dear 3rd grade parents and students,

Welcome to our new monthly online newsletter. Come here for the latest updates on 3rd grade news and fun learning enrichment activities.

Go to http://www.primarygames.com/puzzles/puzzles.htm for math enrichment. I have also posted a link to http://www.wonderzone.com/ where our 3rd grade students can go to not only play fun games, but also learn about the Bible, missionaries, and even have Wonder Devotionals like we do in our Bible class. More links to come!

Please also remember to practice your times tables at least 5 times per week to reinforce long term retention of multiplication facts.

Another important thing to remember is to make sure and eat a good breakfast before school to fuel your brain and body for learning! Your body needs more than just lunch to learn and grow.

Also, make sure your spirit gets fueled with a breakfast of Bible reading and prayer for your day and attitude to be blessed and for you to be a blessing to others!

January Scholastic Book Orders will be due in the middle of the month, on January 15th this month.

I have been working with Miss Folta on helping the students be more responsible with Library Books. Starting Tuesday, January 19th, Library day, there will be a $5.00 Scholar Dollar fine for not returning the books previously checked out.

For Computer class on Wednesday, starting January 20th, the students will be required to bring Headphones.

FYI, we are doing Math Homework on Wednesdays so we can get really good with Long Division!

Remember to keep your Pizza Hut Book-it Calendar in view during the month, so you can turn it in at the end of the month with parent signature. You will receive a Book-it prize and a free pizza coupon. This program ends in March 2010.

Check weekly in case of new information.

Happy New Year 2010!
Miss Gray
